Engadget has been kind enough to work through the product and give us an in depth look at its functionality. We have worked with Logitech Harmony Remotes for years but have recently also started getting more in depth with URC and other more advanced remote systems. We were very curious to see how the Link measured up in enthusiasts hands. Getting the basics out of the way, the Logitech Harmony Link is designed to bridge a standard IR system that exists on your TV and Audio equipment with the Wifi network in the house to allow for control via Mobile Devices. Essentially let’s use our iPad, iPhone, or Android as a remote through Logitech’s matching software.

It looks like Logitech has followed pretty close to their normal structure and while interfaces are attractive and easy to navigate, functions may be a bit delayed over the network. The Mobile Devices do sink together so if someone leaves the room with their phone you can easily take over with your own. Just don’t go grabbing for your standard Harmony to take over because you might get yourself in some trouble as it has no idea what you just did on your phone or iPad. The iPad offers a very interesting addition to the interface with more of a graphic guide but like Engadget we find the available features some what lack luster, we are sure they will be expanded upon. No looking into the future? Come on!

Programming will be somewhat familiar and you will need to own a Harmony remote apparently in order to set up the account on MyHarmony.com. The Link itself has two emitter connections however only 1 emitter is included (Why?) so hiding your equipment and the Link is possible (somewhat?) out of the box. Expect the normal programming questions asking about which inputs go to which source to set up your Watch TV and Watch DVD commands. You will also be able to program somewhat over Wifi but connection with the USB does come in at some point. All in all programming is built to be easy for the everyday consumer, and a bit restricting for advanced enthusiasts.

It looks like a good first version of the Link from Logitech and we are looking forward to updates in both hardware and software as this is their first go around with the product. Take a look at the video!

We all want them even if they don’t exist, which allows for some great YouTube content of people trying (sometimes succeeding) to make their dreams come true. One of the simplest gadgets that has been around in the movies for a long time are the glasses with a video camera. Although this isn’t the first time we have seen something like this in real life this is certainly one of the least expensive. Spy Net Stealth Recording Video Glasses are an inexpensive way to give little Johnny some blackmail on Mom and Dad. At $40 they deliver both still and video capture with a lithium battery and 128mb of memory your kid can get up to 20 minutes of blackmail, sorry “Home Video”.
