Ugly black boxes cluttering our cabinets and paying extra for all this equipment, two things that bother us most. There are always ways around it an they usually still involve having the equipment and just shelling out more dough to hide it. We have all heard of the Multi-Room DVRs that are out there but there just isn’t enough expandability built into the box. In steps DirecTV with the new HR34-700 Home Media Center, our prayers have been answered. Don’t get too excited though your isn’t available quite yet.
The HR34-700 is all about flexibility and the ability to satisfy multiple viewers in the house without the need of extra equipment. Of course you will need one of these bad boys to start the fun but after that you will need either an RVU ready TV or a RVU Client unit for your other screens. We tried to come up with some really bothersome limitations but we were pleasantly surprised with the availability of a full DirecTV Menu System and Interface, buffering, and even DoublePlay capabilities. The box included a 1TB hard drive to serve the 5 Tuners that allow for…you guessed it 5 simultaneous recordings and around 230 hours of your twisted shows. All the bells and whistles are here too with 2-Way Remote Programming, Multiple Remote Sessions, Coaxial Networking, 1080P/24, and 3D support all present and accounted for. Don’t fret this unit is compatible with existing systems and does support WholeHouse DVR systems so you can access information across DVRs with this unit. All in all when this unit becomes more available it will be a great tool for installers and home owners alike.
